I need to define myself
To see the line I’ve made
Looking to find, to find the time
Words of the wise, the wise –eye
You tabled long leg, stopped dry.
Not real, realize you stopped for a loving time
Won't you put a mask on, but underneath it feels real.
For the last one, I give when I can feel.
This is, is where we live together
And I, I want to stay and weather
Without the world caving in.

Often, Often, Often I'll be getting, often I'm across the storm
And you'll be out the door from me
Often, Often
I can keep a secret to myself
But then honestly
And you will see, that you'll be out on everybody else
Take that back
Take that back
Take that back
Take me back
One more time you say it

Can’t always be right cant get this for you on a silver platter
It’s gonna be a long time, time coming
Gotta get the madhatter
I see it one or two ways
Under a gun or big disgrace
I heard you cannot say it straight
The way you wanted it to stay
Well let me feel it, how I felt it, how it started
Set my feet back, turned around where we departed
Send me back
Can’t always be right, cant get this for you on a silver platter
It’s gonna be a long time coming, gotta get the madhatter
I simply cannot get it straight
No matter, what it takes or where I wait
And from the time, it get’s out
Theyr’e knocking down my door and it’s all gone.
Calm down, calm down
Calm down, calm down
Calm down, calm down.

Take me away right here
I bet you’d say you know, this world
That’s just what I’d say too
But I’m standing out of view
I’ll try to explain
If you take it all apart, this time
And watch with every eye
You’d see the world on it’s side
And I’d like to change this someday
Push all your fears away
I feel I left behind you know
There’s more I need to say
Not sure we’ll all get by
And I’ll rearrange this someday
Push all your fears away
If you take it all apart, this time
And watch with every eye
If you take it all apart this time
And watch with every eye

You’ll be far up town
I’m left, I'm left under underground
It’s a falling out, a falling out, a falling out.
People take a chance
on a single night romance
Do they fall apart, you know the start, when it falls apart
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t.
Wake up in the dark
And sit alone with every chart
Try to, try to change their fate
But there’s no escape, there’s no escape
Hop onto the 4,
or catch a 5 or 6 or more, it doesn’t matter
when they’re off the map, there’s no turning back, don't turn your back
Please don't cut me, cut me
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t.
We all bow our heads
to the ones who tell us instead
Where we, where we have to go
do they ever know
Will they ever know
Know what I want
Will I have to put up a fight
Can I, can I see it through
Will you let me through, can it be something new
Please don’t cut me, cut me
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t
Please don’t cut me, please don’t.
We all bow our heads to the ones who tell us instead
where we, where we have to go, do they ever know, will they ever know

It won’t stop, it won’t stop
my life becomes undone, left with nothing in the sun
But you’ll see, yes you’ll see
That whatever you do, there will be love for you.
It won't stop, the more I disobey
The less I feel today, today, today, and it’s driving me away, way, away
Can you shift the morning now (over my eyes)
and away from the night’s sound.
‘cause you’re tired,
you’re fearful, fearful, fearful
That's better than us

I feel I’m bound
My hands tied down
There’s no sound it was taken from me
You shot me down up off the ground
Hate all I bring see you shot me down
A fool I am to think you’d understand
Hold out for one the clocks ticking you see
Get ready to run the stage is set it’s done
Like moving parts and empty hearts, it’s meant for me
Thank you for not showing up
When push comes to shove you know it’s never enough
Thank you for being so right, the rest of us will stay wrong,
Stay wrong all night
You said they’d leave my bad thoughts my dreams
Like a maze, a mime stuck, a disease
Well they’re all spread out,
to stay I scream you shout
I scream you shout
Thank you for not showing up
When push comes to shove you know it’s never enough
Thank you for being so right, the rest of us will stay wrong,
Stay wrong all night
It’s yet to be found, it’s yet to be found
What to be found

I’m told you’re listening from afar
It makes no difference where you are
Just look around to find the words
I only hope that it’s all heard
oh I’m caught in the dark oh
why do I call your name?
In hopes to ease the pain
It still beats just the same
A cold sweat, my fear remains
Frozen inside tried to escape
So why can’t I change

I’m listening to all the others, too much
trying to fill what they want.
I’m following all the trends, until the end,
and what the magazine sends
But if I just did what I like
and if I held in front what’s out of sight
I think that’d be a better way to live
We’d walk this earth in the bright sunlight
But when I’m out on my own, and making moves, well I’m alone
I hold it up in the light and see it clear, it’s all on its own
And if I had a run with you,
just give me just one.
Because I live inside a palace, alone
Well it'd be nice to have a friend around
I'm driving cars on the third floor, above
And there's no one there to bring me down
But if you just knew what I did,
to get you to come home with me
I'd live alone for eternity.

Oh, I’m off the map,
learn, turn more more like woe
Slide, kneel, it feels like day
But that look in your eyes
turn, it's that look in your eyes
It's a look don't say it
Don't say, I wanna say,
Fall towers, and they'll keep you up
Plane to train, further than the rest of them
Broken glass
And hold in front, it feels like day
words came out
what they're saying to me
broken glass
Cast the siren that won't bring back, any
and find it you can’t swim back, it’s heavy
They're lying, just don't sit back steady
to feel good to feel good
to feel good to feel good
I wanna say
Fall towers
And they'll keep you up, yeah they'll keep you up, and I say

FinleyKnight is the music project of brothers John Finley and Connor Knight Detjen. The multi-instrumentalists, Chicago natives, have a shifting set of musical sensibilities, variously morphing from art rock to radio-ready indie-pop to emotive electro facades. The duo began making music together at an early age, and have gone on to record in Chicago, New York, Buenos Aires, and Los Angeles. After touring the US, with residencies in NYC, Austin, Chicago, and Boston, the brothers spent time in South America, performing across Argentina in 2012. FinleyKnight moved to LA in March of 2013 to collaborate with Joey Waronker on their first full length, self-titled album.
Joey Waronker of Atoms For Peace, Beck, REM, joined FinleyKnight as producer for this debut record. The three spent months in Joey's Los Feliz studio perfecting what the brothers had already spent two years creating. Waronker, a renowned wizard of syncopation, contributed to the album’s bold rhythmic adventure, and helped cultivate the unique forward-thinking vision of John and Connor. This debut album exemplifies FinleyKnight’s focus on the progression and evolution of modern music.
